I'm boarding my dog. Do I need to bring bedding, toys or food?
No, but you're welcome to bring any of those items! We feed a premium, GI-friendly food and provide each dog soft, clean bedding.
If you want to keep your dog on his or her regular food, just label the sack with the name and feeding instructions and bring it with you.
Special bedding and favorite toys are also welcome but not required - please make sure everything is labeled with your dog's full name.
Do I have to have a reservation to board my pet?
We appreciate and recommend reservations any time you plan to board a pet with us. However, we do take last-minute guests if space permits.
We strongly recommend reservations around the holidays and college football weekends. We almost always fill up around these times and have to turn away last-minute boarders.
Do I have to have an appointment?
No! We see walk-in clients 7 days a week.
If you would like to see a specific doctor or need to be seen at a certain time, call (205) 424-7387 and we will be glad to schedule an appointment.
Does my pet have to stay on heartworm and flea prevention in the winter?
Dogs must be kept on heartworm preventative year-round.
Many owners are able to forego flea prevention in the cold winter months but for patients with flea allergy, we strongly recommend year-round prevention.
Do I have to bring in my pet just to get a refill on flea/tick or heartworm preventative?
No! If your dog enjoys car rides, by all means bring her along but it isn't necessary as long as we have a current weight and current (within the last 12 months) heartworm test.
Save time by calling ahead and let us know which pet you'll be getting a refill for so we can have it waiting when you arrive.
Does my pet have to have all its shots to board?
Yes, for the safety of all the pets in our care, we require all boarders to be current on their annual vaccines.
If your pet is due for their shots, they can still stay with us as long as they receive their vaccines upon arrival (separate office visit not required).
If your pet received their shots at a different clinic, either bring your records with you or let us know which clinic did the vaccination so we can call to confirm that your pet is current before their stay.
What days do you do surgeries?
We do routine procedures like spay/neuter or dental cleanings by appointment Monday through Friday. Call (205) 424-7387
For your convenience we start taking dropoffs at 7 a.m.. We will call you as soon as your pet is fully awake and it is safe to travel - after that, you can pick up anytime before we close at 9 p.m.
When a pet needs emergency surgery, we do it as soon as we have the owner's permission – 7 days a week.
What does an office exam cost?
Seeing a veterinarian for an office visit is $42.
We accept cash, credit cards, checks and Care Credit. We cannot offer payment plan. Payment due at the time of the office visit.
What hours are the doctors there?
Our doctors are here Monday through Saturday for walk-in visits or appointments from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. until close. On Sundays, our doctors are available from 2 p.m. until we close at 8 p.m.
We know our clients have busy lives and work schedules so for your convenience, we begin accepting drop-offs for boarding, baths or scheduled surgeries at 7 a.m. (except Sunday) and continue during lunch hours (12-2) even when the doctors aren't available. We can also do medication refills during these times.
What vaccines are required before surgery?
Rabies is the only vaccine we require of surgical patients. If your pet isn't current, we can administer the vaccine prior to surgery.
Do you accept medicaid for spay/neuters?
No we do not accept Medicaid for any services. We do provide low cost spay/neuter surgeries for Medicaid recipients. This funding is made available through the Alabama veterinary medical association and funded through the sale of spay/neuter vanity car tags and approval is dependent on available funds.
To apply, come by our office to fill out an application which we will send in for you and notify you if/when it is approved. The program requires a co-pay, flea medication, and rabies vaccine.
Do you have a groomer?
No. We only offer baths, nail trims and shave downs (short all over — no breed-specific cuts.)
Do you have day-boarding? How much is it?
Yes! We will be glad to keep your pet while you're gone for the day! You can drop-off as early as 7 a.m. and pick up before we close (9 on weekdays, 8 on weekends).
The cost is only $8.75 per day. Reservations aren't required but are recommended during holidays and football weekends when we are often fully booked.
